Happening This Week November 29- Dec 3, 2020

Welcome back to “Happening this Week”. Currently our major focus is on helping students complete and submit work, communication with parents and support for struggling students. As Dec 17 approaches we want to be sure students and families have had fair warning for grades. These efforts include:

·        The grades teachers ran last week during the Tues meeting time

·        Communication to parents from the Principal (See Dr. Lori's Email below).

·        Student Morning Announcements highlighting the Dec 17 deadline for work and keeping cameras on in class

·        A new weekly communication for parents and families (Similar to this one) including additional instructions for logging on to neo and checking NEO

Important upcoming Dates for Quarter 2 Reports

·        Dec 17 Last day of Term

·        Jan 3 Start on Reports

·        Jan 7 Thurs Lock Grades

Dec 17 is going to come quickly. We are happy for teachers to have no assessments or assignments due from Thursday, Dec 10 to Thursday, Dec 17 so the time can be used to collect missing work, complete grades, and communicate with families regarding students who are failing.

Sunday Morning announcements will begin this Sunday at 9:45.

Sunday Morning Announcements each Sunday at 9:45. All students are required to tune in. Please be there for:

·        National Anthem

·        Prayer

·        Fun Facts

·        Upcoming Events

·        Announcements

·        And more

Here is a view of Sunday's Morning Announcement.

Tuesday Meeting Time-Whole Staff Meeting

Principal Communication to parents.

FYI, Dr. Lori has sent this message to parents. Also, the Student Morning announcement is stressing the Dec 17 deadline for all work with no extensions available Quarter 2.

Good Afternoon Parents:  I hope everyone is doing well.  I wanted to ask that when you receive an email from one of our hard-working teachers that you take a moment to respond back.  This message could be as simple as 'received'.  Our staff are very diligent regarding connecting with parents when there are academic or behavioral concerns with their students and they are experiencing a bit of frustration when they have to repeatedly email the same message and do not hear back.  Thank you very much for your attention to this matter as communication is a key component to the success of your sons.  Kind regards, Dr. Lori

Classroom Visit Walk Troughs

The purpose of the walkthroughs is to provide support for instruction and learning.

These walk throughs may only be about 10 minutes each, which also means we should have a chance to visit classes more often. We are sharing this with you so you understand what we are doing when you see us randomly drop in and out of classes unannounced.

What we will be looking for evidence of things such as:

  • Class structure such as do now “Bell Ringers” for introduction or exit tickets for conclusion, or any other transition methods
  • Use of digital instruction such as digital whiteboard or Kahoot, Education Perfect or other digital instruction tools
  • Evidence can be seen in real time instruction or slide shows, Agenda, Neo, etc.

The list above is neither mandatory nor exclusive. We will use this to develop and share best practices, so the menu of digital instruction and class structures will evolve. Hopefully, we can use this to allow teachers chances to share best practices in the Staff meetings, HOY meetings or CCC meetings.

In conjunction with the visit, we will look at:

  • Grade book, including failing students or students with zeros to ensure parent contact. This is currently a high priority for us.
  • Neo, such as resources and welcome, lesson activities etc.
  • Atlas for coherence of lesson and Unit. We understand Lessons are pacing different this year. We expect less material will be covered, we are checking to gauge where things are.

Grade 12 GPA

We are working on a GPA calculator for our senior students so if they ask tell them it’s in progress.

 Have a great week!!!
