Happening This Week November 22-26, 2020
Happy Thanksgiving This Thursday for those who Celebrate it!
Welcome to the first "Happening This Week" post. The goal of this is to provide one place where we can share information and it can become a 'library' of communication as the year progresses.
Below you will find
- Morning Announcement update
- Tuesday meeting time
- Classroom visits
- Travel update
- GPA Calculator for grade 12
- Announcements for HOY
- Field Trips
Morning announcements will begin this Tuesday at 9:45.
· National Anthem, Prayer, Fun Facts, Upcoming Events, Announcements, And more
Tuesday Staff meeting Meeting Time
The staff meeting time will be used for individual work time so that you can take that hour and do the following:
·
Input your TERM 2 GRADES at
that point in time into Admin. Plus. We just want
the present term 2 score – you do not have to put in a comment or anything else
– this is a half way through Term 2 grade. The students will NOT see
these, nor the parents. This data is for us to take a look at our classes
and identify students who are at risk.
· Once these grades are in, I will run the data on the morning of November 25 and communicate this data out to HOY and HOD for analysis and discussion with your teams
Following up with struggling students and ensuring communication with parents is a top priority for us at this time.
Classroom Visit Walk Trough’s
The purpose of the walkthroughs is to provide support for instruction and learning. These walk throughs may only be about 10 minutes each, which also means we should have a chance to visit classes more often. We are sharing this with you so you understand what we are doing when you see us randomly drop in and out of classes.
What we will be looking for evidence of things such as:
- Class structure such as do now “Bell Ringers” for introduction or exit tickets for conclusion, or any other transition methods
- Use of digital instruction such as digital whiteboard or Kahoot, Education Perfect or other digital instruction tools
- Evidence can be seen in real time instruction or slide shows, Agenda, Neo, etc.
The list above is neither mandatory nor exclusive. We will use this to develop and share best practices, so the menu of digital instruction and class structures will evolve. Hopefully, we can use this to allow teachers chances to share best practices in the Staff meetings, HOY meetings or CCC meetings. In conjunction with the visit, we will look at:
- Grade book, including failing students or students with zeros to ensure parent contact. This is currently a high priority for us.
- Neo, such as resources and welcome, lesson activities etc.
- Atlas for coherence of lesson and Unit. We understand Lessons are pacing different this year. We expect less material will be covered, we are checking to gauge where things are.

Travel
As per Dr. Mathew’s webinar message you are permitted to travel back home in December and work from home for semester 2.
If you choose to do this
please let Dr. Lori know your travel plans and where you will be working from
for semester 2. Dr. Lori will send out a reminder email at the end of this
month.
Grade 12 GPA
We
are working on a GPA calculator for our senior students so if they ask tell
them it’s in progress.
Progress reports are going out this weekend. I will be contacting parents for students whose overall average is below the passing average of 63%.
Also, I will be sharing the "camera
off" list with admin this weekend. I kept a record this week for
each class.
Field Trips
Grade 6 just finished up a field trip on Thursday, Nov 19. They had no regular classes, instead, they were engaged with trips to Mars, Mecca, and visits with wild animals!
Great job Grade 6 team!!!
Have a great week everyone!
